On the day that Jesus was released into ministry, He stood up in the synagogue and read Isaiah 61:1-2, declaring His calling to all who were present (Luke 4:18-19). He finished off by saying: “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” (Luke 4:21) Anointed: chosen or nominated for a leading or otherwise important position, especially formally or officially, or as an intended successor. Preach: publicly proclaim or teach; earnestly advocate Sent: the implication here is that we need to GO somewhere Heal: lay hands on people & pray for healing & deliverance Proclaim: to announce officially or publicly Comfort: 2 Corinthians 1:4 He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. Console: comfort (someone) at a time of grief or disappointment Give beauty for ashes oil of joy for mourning garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness - what do we do with a garment? Put it on. It's an action. We must open our mouths in praise & worship to the Lord for the spirit of heaviness to be lifted. This is why Christ came to earth & we ought to follow in His footsteps & do what we see Him do just as He did what He saw the Father do. He healed the one who arrested Him, He served the one who betrayed Him & He loved the world that crucified Him. Jesus commissioned his disciples to: Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Matthew 10:8 comfort those who are in any trouble 2 Corinthians 3-4 For too long we have believed the lie that we needed have it all together & be completely healed before we can help others heal. We have made it up the step & can help those on the lower step to get to where I am & accept help from those on higher steps to help me up to where they are. Our world desperately needs those of us who have grown to pass on the knowledge & experience we've gained to those who are new in the faith. Every single one of us has something the body of Christ needs. There's a tsunami of trauma around us & the church is currently ill-equipped to deal with it because they are themselves still burying their own trauma. We need to advance the Kingdom & set the captives free. We need to learn to love like Christ who loved deeply & well. We need to learn how to listen, pray & help others dismantle the strongholds. It starts with building relationships because we are hurt in relationship & the same way we are healed in relationships. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” Mark 16:18 NKJV Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. James 5:13‭-‬16 NKJV
1The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, 2to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, 3and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor. 4They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations.
