Healing Trauma Teaching Series

Encounter EH Prayer Ministry - Flyer.png

In February 2023 I started 2 Encounter Elijah House groups to introduce people to the Elijah House teachings with the 5 Keynote lessons from A-School. Some of my group wanted to learn more but didn't want to do the schools so I obtained permission to work with them through these various Teaching Series workbooks with the videos I had obtained from Sandra after I had my prayer ministry with her in June 2020.

We meet on Wednesdays every week in the Mairangi Bay Community Church Lounge from 10h00 & 18h30 with exception of days when I serve on sound & intercession at an Elijah House A, B, C or D-Schools (see the EH Training table at the bottom of this page). We are basically a Life Group, with a focus on healing hearts through the journey of sanctification & transformation. We start with worship, watch a lesson & then have an opportunity for "hotseat" prayer as the Holy Spirit leads or fellowship.

Goals of these Teaching Series:

Yahweh Rophe = The Lord who heals

and said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord  who heals you.” Exodus 15:26 NKJV

For those who have experienced trauma & its devastating effects:
  • There is hope.

  • There is help.

  • There is freedom!

  • You can find peace.

For those who love & suffer along with someone who has been traumatised:
  • Help you understand on a deeper level.

    • What your loved one has gone and is going through.

    • Your own trauma as you have struggled to help those you love.

  • Impart courage & hope.

  • Help facilitate healing.

For those taking this course to be better equipped to minister:
  • Give you an understanding of trauma & its effects.

  • Teach you how to minister.

  • Share important ministry tools & prayers specific to trauma resolution.

  • Give practical ministry tips.

  • Freely we have received & freely we should give.

  • Comfort others with the same comfort with which you have been comforted.

The biggest lesson I’ve learnt on my journey of healing & transformation with Elijah House is that everything the enemy meant for my demise, God will use for good so He may be glorified. He has won no victories and  we overcome by the blood of the Lamb & the word of our testimony Revelation 12:11

Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I. Send me!” Isaiah 6:8

This is an opportunity to learn more about trauma & its affects as well as how to carry each others burdens & love each other back to life.

Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I. Send me!” Isaiah 6:8

My Story:

In 2020 I was at Life Central for choir during the morning service & I heard the pastor telling the story of a pedestrian that was run over & critically injured right in front of a hospital. Someone ran inside the hospital to get help but was told he had to bring the patient inside before they would assist. Sadly, by the time he got the injured person inside the building, it was too late & the pedestrian passed away. This struck a chord for me because as the church, we've been urging people to come to church to be saved rather than finding them in the gutters to love them into the kingdom.

Trauma compromises our ability to engage with others by replacing patterns of connection with patterns of protection. There's a tsunami of wounded & traumatised as well as spiritually dead people all around us but the church is currently ill-equipped to deal with it all because we're still hiding in our own strongholds of busyness, religion, addictions, denial, withdrawal etc. to medicate our hidden, suppressed & unresolved traumas.

Whenever you go to a hospital you'll find people who have dedicated themselves to be trained in order to help those in need of medical attention.  What if the church would take trauma seriously enough to train with the same dedication to walk alongside people to help them through the difficult times? There's a growing urgency for us to learn how to pray for people so we go out into our neighbourhoods to reach those in the gutters in order to love them back to life.

The person I am today is a result of the Elijah House training & prayer ministry received & tribe gently loving me back to life over the last 2 years. My journey with Elijah House has been one of acknowledging the bad fruit in my life, recognising my own sinful responses to trauma, repentance, forgiveness & renouncing all the LIES I'd come to believe as well as the inner vows I've made to protect my heart.

If you have trauma you would like to pursue healing for or if you have a heart willing to learn how to help others heal, please join me on a 13 week journey through the Healing Trauma teaching series by Sandra Sellmer-Kersten from Elijah House Ministries.

On the day that Jesus was released into ministry, He stood up in the synagogue and read Isaiah 61:1-2, declaring His calling to all who were present (Luke 4:18-19). He concluded by saying: “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” (Luke 4:21)

1“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me,
Because the Lord has anointed
(to choose or nominate somebody for a leading or otherwise important position, especially formally or officially, or as an intended successor.) Me
To preach
(publicly proclaim or teach; earnestly advocate) good tidings to the poor;
He has sent
(the implication here is that we need to GO somewhere) Me to heal the broken-hearted,
To proclaim
(to announce officially or publicly) liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;

2To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,
And the day of vengeance of our God;
To comfort
(According to 2 Corinthians 1:4 He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.) all who mourn,
3To console (comfort (someone) at a time of grief or disappointment) those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise
(what do we do with a garment? Put it on. It's an action. We must open our mouths in praise & worship to the Lord for the spirit of heaviness to be lifted) for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.

4And they shall rebuild the old ruins,
They shall raise up the former desolations,
And they shall repair the ruined cities,
The desolations of many generations.

5Strangers shall stand and feed your flocks,
And the sons of the foreigner
Shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers.

Isaiah 61:1-4

Ever since I first came to Christ in 1979, whenever I think of my purpose, Isaiah 61:1-4 & the song "Take My healing to the nations, bind their broken hearts with love" have been first & foremost on my mind. Therefore I believe it's God's design that this very Scripture is also the Elijah House Scripture.

This is why Christ came to earth & we ought to follow in His footsteps & do what we see Him do just as He did what He saw the Father do.

  • He healed the one who arrested Him,

  • He served the one who betrayed Him &

  • He loved the world that crucified Him.

Jesus commissioned his disciples to

  • Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. Matthew 10:8

  • 3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 2 Corinthians 3-4

  • In John 14:12 Jesus said that anyone who believes in Him will do the same works and even greater works, than what He has done because He was going to be with the Father.

For too long we have believed the lie that we needed have it all together & be completely healed before we can help others heal. We have made it up the step & can help those on the lower step to get to where I am & accept help from those on higher steps to help me up to where they are. Our world desperately needs those of us who have grown to pass on the knowledge & experience we've gained to those who are new in the faith. Every single one of us has something the body of Christ needs.

There's a tsunami of trauma around us & the church is currently ill-equipped to deal with it because they are themselves still burying their own trauma. We need to advance the Kingdom & set the captives free. We need to learn to love like Christ who loved deeply & well. We need to learn how to listen, pray & help others dismantle the strongholds. It starts with building relationships because we are hurt in relationship & the same way we are healed in relationships.

And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;
they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.
Mark 16:18 NKJV

Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. James 5:13-16 NKJV

Every single one of us has been wounded, the question is have we allowed the Lord to heal us to the extent that those wounds are a testimony to what He can do in our lives & for others. If He can do it for me, He will do it for you if you're willing to let him into those areas of your lives. He's standing at the door knocking, waiting for us to allow Him to bring His love & peace into every room of our hearts. Until we heal, we will continue to see others through our trauma-tinted lenses, be triggered & bleed all over those around us. If we haven't healed, every time we are reminded of the negative event, our bodies produce the exact same chemicals it did when in happened thus you will keep reliving that experience until you heal. When we heal, we change & those around us will be positively affected.

We aren't called to fill the pews with members but to fill the world with disciples. Churches are not museums that display perfect people. They are hospitals where the wounded, hurt, injured & broken should find healing. We must stop looking for the perfect church but instead worship a perfect God with a congregation of flawed people who need grace as much as you do.

This encoutner group runs under the spiritual covering of MBCC with support & backing of our pastors.

Training to serve the church.
