Week 1 Creative Connect Group: 01/05/2020 Genesis 1: 1&27

Updated: Sep 5, 2020

Last month I re-launched a creative connect group for the purpose of creating a creative community to represent God to the lost & found for transformation in Christ.

In Genesis 1:1 God introduces Himself as the most amazing Artist. He creates the heaven & earth by merely speaking a word. According to Genesis 1:27 we were created in Gods image. This infers that His creative DNA is part of our identity. Hence ALL of us are creative.

Over the years I've heard so many talented people say they can't draw, sing, dance or do x, y or z Every toddler loves drawing, singing & dancing. They delight in their stick figures & squiggles. When mom & dad react delighted to their presentation, they'll eagerly create more. They sing & dance with such confidence & delight as long as someone will acknowledge them. Unfortunately, for most of us, somewhere along the line something happens that destroys our confidence & discourages us from creating. Maybe mom & dad showed

no interest in our creations or someone told us we're never going to be good at it so we resort to believing the lie that we can't or we're not good enough. For some it could be a teacher or someone else that said something negative about their creation that made them stop trying.

Often we give up trying because sometimes it's easier to just say "I can't" than to face the embarrassment & rejection of someone not liking our creations. Back in SA, I did vocal training with Malie Kelly, the SA Idols vocal coach, who shared with us that Ge Korsten, the famous SA singer & legend, couldn’t hold a note when he first started singing but his love for singing & persistence made him one of SA’s biggest Afrikaans singers. Last year I did an online drawing course, with a secular instructor & he said “EVERYONE can learn to draw” I personally stopped creating at about 13 when life happened & I just didn’t have any encouragement or motivation to keep trying.

But God has pulled me out of the pit & helped me rediscover my abilities. Now my passion is to help others re-discover their God-given identity & abilities in Christ.
